Have you ever wanted to fly a plane? You can do just that at the Newton Flight Academy, an immersive new experience at Glasgow Science Centre.

The UK’s first Newton Flight Academy and home to Scotland’s only full-motion flight simulators – there are three of them – is suitable for everyone aged 12 and over with youngsters aged between nine and 11 required to share their flying experience with an accompanying adult.

How does it work? Would-be pilots discover the science of flight at the controls of a light aircraft in a 30-minute flight simulator experience that take offs and lands at Glasgow Airport.

There’s a chance to familiarise yourself with the controls while flying over the city before embarking on a short sightseeing flight around a city of your choice.

The experience is available to the public at weekends and during school and public holidays. At other times its role is to teach S2 and S3 secondary school pupils aviation-related STEM concepts, inspiring the engineers and scientists of tomorrow to develop the ideas and technologies that will shape the future of more sustainable aircraft and aviation.

Helping to build Scotland’s innovation pipeline, the Newton Flight Academy marks the start of celebrations for Glasgow Science Centre’s 21st birthday in July, and looks to build on the organisation’s commitment to inclusive and accessible science for all. www.glasgowsciencecentre.org
