Glasgow jewellery business boss Steven Coll has turned to one of the remotest Hebridean islands off the coast of Scotland for inspiration for client gifts.

In a unique tie-up, Steven’s family-owned Tom Coll Jewellery struck a deal with the Isle of Coll Distillery to produce specially labelled bottles of gin for the store’s next batch of gifts.

Steven, who heads up the jewellery and watch business he and his late father Tom founded in 1984, explained: “We often give a little token of appreciation to clients when they buy something special from us.

“In the past we’ve had branded boxes of chocolates or specially baked fudge. We’re always on the lookout for something that little bit different when it comes to jewellery, and we decided to adopt the same strategy for our next thank you present.

“We’d bought a bottle of Isle of Coll Gin as a birthday present for one of our friends at the end of 2021. When he opened it, he suggested right away we should find out about getting some bottles for our next client gift.

“The Coll name connection was a standout and fortunately Dougie Brown at the distillery on Coll liked the link too and agreed to work with us on the project.”

Tom Coll Jewellery, based in Glasgow’s Argyll Arcade, had specially designed watchstrap-style labels printed for its own 20cl bottles. “We’re delighted with them and we particularly like that the gin is made in Scotland and we’re supporting another Scottish-based business,” said Steven.

“We’re a small business that makes our own jewellery designs in-house and we liked the whole ethos of the distillery’s approach to their production. It’s a small but perfectly formed distillery with a focus on the detail – just like our team. So far, the gin gift is proving popular, and we’ve already ordered our next batch of bottles.”
