Jimmy Lee is expanding his Hong Kong street food brand, Salt & Chill Oriental, with an opening in Hamilton.

The Glasgow-based chef is taking his mash-up of East and West, old and new to its third location – his own hometown.

Salt & Chilli Oriental Hamilton follows Salt & Chilli in Glasgow’s west end and Salt & Chilli Edinburgh within Bonnie & Wild Scottish Marketplace at St James Quarter.

The frills-free street food format serves Cantonese street food that has been reimagined, remastered, and given a playful twist, along with comforting Chinese classics and fusion concoctions that combine traditional Hong Kong street food with a strong dose of modern Scottish attitude.

This grab-and-go venture at 17 Gateside Street tempts diners with everything from Tangy Peking Ribs and Chicken Satay with Spicy Dip to Bao-filled Katsu Chicken or Pulled Aromatic Duck as well as the signature Salt & Chilli menu with options of Chicken, King Prawn, Crab, Calamari or Tofu Salt & Chilli – all served with Yutaka Slaw.

Jimmy, who also owns one of Glasgow’s most celebrated Cantonese restaurants, Lychee Oriental, has appeared on the BBC’s Great British Menu, as a judge alongside Prue Leith on Channel 4’s My Kitchen Rules, and with Kirstie Allsopp on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas as well as presenting his popular STV cookery series, Julie and Jimmy’s Hot Woks.
