Love seafood and the seaside? Then head for Fife’s picturesque East Neuk and one of Scotland’s best-loved seaside food shacks.

The Harbour Café, on the harbour in Elie overlooking the stunning sands of the beach, is run by husband-and-wife team Amy and Jack Elles who serve the freshest fish and seafood straight from local boats as well as premium produce and meat from the surrounding farmland.

While the menu varies from day to day depending on what the boats bring in, it might include Pittenweem-landed lobster and langoustines, and crab. Local heritage breed beef and lamb is sourced from nearby Balcaskie Estate, prepared by the Butchery at Bowhouse, while organic fresh produce comes East Neuk Market Garden.

A classically trained chef, Amy has worked all over the world for private clients and at top restaurants including three Michelin-starred The Fat Duck. Fans of cooking programmes may also recognise Amy from the BBC series Great British Menu where she represented Scotland in 2020 and 2021. Earlier this year, the couple cooked for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they visited Fife.

Guests can either sit in the rustic café and look out to sea or choose from the “hole in the wall” takeaway menu – which includes a pint of prawns and gourmet hot dogs – and have a picnic on Elie Beach.

The Harbour Café also offers The Harbour Café at Home hampers, brimming with prepared lobster, langoustines, oysters and wine pairings which have wowing critics such as Tom Parker-Bowles and William Sitwell.

Current opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon-3pm and 6pm-8pm. Book online at www.theharbourcafe.co.uk.
